Big Ten Network Partners with Penn State Athletics to Support THON
Network purchases 1,000 student tickets to Ohio State-Penn State men's basketball game
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Big Ten Network is buying 1,000 student tickets to the Ohio State-Penn State men's basketball game to help support THON, the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.
The network's goal is to help the Penn State Athletic Department attract 10,000 students to the Tuesday, Jan. 29, contest. If the school sells 10,000 student tickets for the Ohio State-Penn State game, all of the proceeds from the single-game student ticket sales for the Michigan State game on Saturday, Feb. 2, will go to THON.
The first 1,000 Penn State students who buy one ticket to the Ohio State game will get one free, courtesy of the Big Ten Network. Tickets may be purchased at the HUB's Basketball Table on Friday at noon. There is a limit of two tickets per student and a valid PSU ID is required.
THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, with all proceeds benefiting The Four Diamonds Fund, Conquering Childhood Cancer, at the Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa. After a year-round fundraising effort by the students of all Penn State campuses, THON culminates in a 46-hour no-sitting, no-sleep Dance Marathon in the Bryce Jordan Center. This year's THON weekend begins Feb. 22.
The Big Ten Network reached the 30 million subscriber mark within its first 30 days on the air, becoming the first new cable/satellite network in history to reach that milestone. The network is available through DIRECTV, DISH Network, AT&T U-Verse, Insight Communications, WideOpenWest, RCN, Service Electric, D&E Communications and more than 180 other cable operators.
