PREVIOUS PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Spent the past 11 years at ESPN – the first 2 primarily as an anchor for ESPNews –the last 9 filling a variety of roles at the network, including:

- Reporter – Outside the Lines
Previous to ESPN, I spent two years as the Weekend Sports Anchor/Sports Reporter at KXII-TV in Sherman, Texas, followed by a year in the same role at WHBF-TV in the Quad Cities.
Before going into broadcasting, I spent one year as a Financial Analyst in the Recovery & Restructuring Department at Chase Manhattan Bank. I hated every minute of it and vowed I would never again have a real job. So far, so good.
MY FIRST JOB IN SPORTS WAS …: My first (barely) paid job was the job in Sherman. I also did play-by-play for Northwestern while an undergraduate at WNUR Radio.
THE BEST BIG TEN TRADITION IS …: Script Ohio. Every time I see it in person, I get a chill up my spine.
MOST ADMIRED ATHLETE GROWING UP: Harold Baines.
GREATEST ALL-TIME BIG TEN SPORTS MEMORY AS A SPECTATOR: Seeing Northwestern run out onto the field before the Rose Bowl game after the '95 season. So incredibly unlikely, there were no words to describe it.
GREATEST ALL-TIME ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENT: Let's just say I'm not narrowing it down from a particularly long list.
I did win back to back Watermelon Eating Contests at the Wendy Drive block party in 1975 and '76. Not an easy title to defend – definitely had a target on my back.
Probably peaked athletically in sixth grade with my second-place finish in District 28 in the 50-yard dash.
I also played on a dominating defensive line for Phi Gamma Delta, as we captured the 165-pound and under intramural football title at NU in 1990. We gave up one TD all year. Long-time major leaguer Mark Loretta was our back-up QB. We were pretty darn good.
